Acne Tip #1: How Can I Control My Teenager's Acne?
Abe Zelasko, Editor
Question: I recall someone saying
that reducing or eliminating dairy products
from a diet helps heal acne. My daughter
and I want to try some natural methods
before going to a dermatologist. Your
advice would be greatly appreciated.
Answer: More people than realize
have some sort of allergy, sensitivity or
intolerance to milk and dairy products, so
it makes sense to remove them from the diet
first to rule this out. See if it makes a
difference.
As simplistic as this sounds, most types
of teenage acne will improve greatly by
simply having a healthy diet. Cut out all
fried food, soft drinks, sweets and
desserts. Concentrate on fish, lean meat,
lots of vegetables (both raw and cooked),
fruit, wholegrain breads and pastas.
Since Zinc plays an important role in
the skin, I recommend taking a supplement
equal to 50mg of elemental zinc daily. Take
a multivitamin supplement as well.
Doing the above will take care of acne
problems for teenagers the majority of the
time.
